Real-Time Options Data is Now Inside TrendSpider

The options market has always required a separate tool. A different platform, a different workflow, another window open next to the one you actually trade from. TrendSpider just changed that. Charts, scans, alerts, Sidekick AI: all now benefit from complete access to real-time options data from OPRA. For equity traders who’ve been watching the options market from a distance, and for options traders who’ve wanted a more powerful home for their analysis, this is what you’ve been waiting for.

Real-Time Options Data is Now on TrendSpider

Everything Options Data Touches

This isn’t a standalone panel you’ll visit occasionally. Options data is integrated across TrendSpider at a platform level, so it works wherever you already work.

  • Options Chain Panel: Classic real-time chain view with data refreshing every ~10 seconds
  • Options Map: A heatmap showing any metric across all strikes and all expirations for any underlying at once
  • Sidekick AI: TrendSpider’s AI assistant can now pull and analyze live options data on demand
  • Custom JS: New functions for building proprietary options indicators including full greeks computation and Black-Scholes pricing
  • Charting: Click any contract from the Options Chain or the Options Map and it loads directly onto your chart alongside your price data
  • Scanning: Build a custom options indicator once and use it to scan the entire market for any options condition you can code
  • Alerts: Set price alerts directly on options contracts the same way you would on any equity, or trigger alerts from custom options indicator conditions
  • Smart Checklists: Add custom options indicator conditions to your checklists for pass/fail signals. For example, flag any ticker where the Put/Call Ratio has crossed above 1.0
  • Watchlists: Right-click any contract in the chain to add it to a watchlist and track real-time quotes
  • Symbol Search: Search for any contract by partial symbol in the main search bar, or use the new dedicated Options tab to browse the full chain by expiration directly from the search menu

The Options Chain Panel

Click Options Data at the bottom of the platform and select Options Chain to load the panel. Strikes, expirations, calls, puts, bid/ask, OI, and volume are all here in real time with data refreshing every ~10 seconds, and ITM rows are highlighted in green so the money side is always front and center.

How it Works

  • Columns: Displays Bid, Ask, Open Interest, and Last Price by default, fully customizable up to 7 columns total including Delta, Theta, and more.
  • Progress Bar: A customizable horizontal bar chart stemming from the center strikes, defaulting to Open Interest so you can see which strikes hold the most OI without number clutter.
  • Navigation Bar: A customizable visual bar column on the far right defaulting to today’s volume, giving you a quick read of where contract activity is concentrated across strikes.

The Options Map

The Options Map is the headline feature of this release, and it’s unlike anything available on other platforms. Rather than clicking through expirations one at a time, you see the entire options surface for any ticker at once: any metric, all strikes, all expirations, in a single heatmap view.

How it Works

  • The Grid: Strikes run along the left side of the map, expirations run across the top, and every cell is a single contract colored by the metric you’re viewing on a darkest-to-lightest scale (Open Interest by default), giving you an instant picture of where the market is concentrated across the full surface.
  • Choosing Your Metric: Switch between Open Interest, Implied Volatility, Delta, Gamma, Put/Call Ratio, Volume, and more. Each tells a different story about where positioning and risk are concentrated.
  • Heatmap Highlighting: Control how the color scale is applied across the grid:
    • Entire Grid (default): Scales across all strikes and expirations together so the darkest cell is the single highest-value contract on the full surface.
    • By Strike: Rescales per row, showing which expiration is most active at each specific price level.
    • By Expiration: Rescales per column, showing which strikes are most active within each individual expiration.
  • Expiration Filters: Filter to weekly, monthly, or quarterly expirations to cut noise. Particularly useful for high-volume tickers like SPY and SPX where removing dense weekly cycles surfaces the expirations where the most meaningful positioning lives. Multiple Options Map windows can be open simultaneously across different tickers and metrics.

Ask Sidekick About the Options Chain

Sidekick, TrendSpider’s AI trading assistant, now has access to full live OPRA options chain data. You can describe what you’re trying to do and get a real, data-driven answer grounded in live strikes, expirations, greeks, and positioning, without manually digging through the chain yourself.

What You Can Ask

  • Strike and Expiration Selection: Ask Sidekick to identify favorable LEAPS calls on a ticker, break down the tradeoffs between expirations, or walk through which strike best aligns with a specific directional view.
  • Greeks and Positioning: Get a plain-language breakdown of delta, gamma, theta, and IV for any contract or range of strikes without running the numbers yourself.
  • Contract Selection Research: Describe your setup and ask Sidekick to walk through the chain and explain which contracts align with it, including tradeoffs on strike selection, expiration, and premium cost.

Custom Options Indicators

Two indicators are ready to use today, but the bigger story is that any TrendSpider user can now build their own options-powered indicator using live OPRA data and deploy it anywhere on the platform: charts, scans, alerts, and smart checklists. Pull any piece of the options surface into a custom indicator, set it as a scan condition, and run it across the entire market.

Both of the following are part of the free Options Indicators Collection, which will keep growing as more are added.

Expected Move from Options

  • Calculates the at-the-money straddle price across up to six expirations to derive an implied price range
  • Plots the upper and lower bounds on your chart as green and red shaded zones
  • Shows how far the market expects the stock to move, directly on your daily chart

Put/Call Ratio

  • Pulls open interest across all expirations near the current price and calculates total OI for puts versus calls
  • Displays the result as a compact doughnut chart overlay directly on your chart
  • A reading above 1.0 reflects more put OI (bearish positioning); below 1.0 reflects bullish sentiment
  • Add it to a scan to surface stocks where sentiment has shifted, or use it in a smart checklist as a real-time positioning signal

Build Your Own: Custom JS Options Functions

For developers, this release opens a door that didn’t exist before. A set of new Custom JS functions gives you direct programmatic access to the full OPRA data feed. Build your options levels, greeks overlays, or volatility tools once and deploy them directly to the TrendSpider Store, where the data, platform, and audience are already in place. No infrastructure, no data costs, no billing to manage.

  • request.options_schedule() Returns the full schedule of options for any asset, including all expirations and all strikes
  • request.options_data_for_all_expirations() Returns the complete dataset behind the Options Map, the same data the heatmap visualizes, fully accessible in code
  • options.compute_greeks() Exposes the Black-Scholes model for computing greeks on any contract directly inside a custom indicator
  • options.compute_option_price() Uses Black-Scholes to price any options contract programmatically

No coding experience? No problem. TrendSpider’s AI Coding Assistant lets you describe the indicator you want in plain language and builds the Custom JS for you. That includes options-based indicators. Describe the logic, let the AI write the code, and deploy it to your charts, scans, and alerts without touching a line of JavaScript yourself.

If you can define it, you can build it.

Get Started With Options Data

This is one of the most significant data expansions TrendSpider has ever shipped. The full options surface, across every strike, every expiration, and every major metric, is now part of your platform. Chart it, scan it, set alerts on it, and ask Sidekick about it, all in the same place you do everything else.

OPRA (Options Price Reporting Authority) is the consolidated real-time data feed for US options markets, covering options on US equities and CBOE index products including SPX and VIX. It’s available as an add-on subscription at $9/month for non-professional users and $40/month for professional users. Professional status applies to those trading as a business rather than as an individual investor; the majority of retail traders qualify as non-professional. OPRA data is licensed for use on one device at a time per subscription.
