AI Integration in Cars & Key Players

At the Snapdragon Summit 2024 on Tuesday, QCOM (Qualcomm) and GOOGL (Google) announced a major partnership to bring advanced AI features to cars. By integrating Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Digital Chassis, Android Automotive OS, and Google Cloud, they are developing a unified platform for generative AI-powered digital cockpits.

Mercedes Benz and Li Auto will be the first automakers to implement this technology, including intuitive voice assistants, immersive navigation, and real-time updates, enhancing the overall driving experience.

AI Integration with Edge AI SoCs / AI Hub and Autonomous Driving Capabilities

The digital cockpits will be powered by Qualcomm’s edge AI system-on-chips (SoCs) and AI Hub for easy deployment of AI models for vision, audio, and speech tasks. It integrates with the driver’s digital ecosystem, handling tasks like booking restaurant reservations, syncing with calendars, and starting navigation automatically.

This will support both Android and iOS, including Apple CarPlay for iPhone users, ensuring broad compatibility. Additionally, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Connected Services Platform allows vehicles to stay upgradeable through API-driven connectivity.

The system’s autonomous capabilities would allow it to detect unavailable parking before reaching a destination, drop off the driver upon arrival, and park itself, enhancing convenience. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Cockpit Elite and Ride Elite platforms are essential for enabling these advanced functions.
